I think it's Friday....how easy it is to lose track of time when you are not governed by the clock! We left Edinburgh on Tuesday and traveled by train to York. It was an experience, and I'm sure more than one person could be found muttering under their breath something unpleasant about American tourists! We soon learned how important it is to make seat reservations for the train, so before our next leg of the journey, we did just that. However, our seat reservations soon became worthless when one of train connections was cancelled! No problem, we waited an hour and caught the next train, but without reservations, it was difficult to find a seat, and certainly not together! We are learning, though. We spent one night in York - a medieval town with the largest cathedral in Europe - and attended the Evening Song Service. Then it was on to Lowestoft - a sea-side community along the North Sea. The B&B was billed as a 3 minute taxi ride, but arriving late, there were no taxis, and so we walked. The 3 minutes turned into a good mile hike towing heavy suitcases behind us! What a sight we were to behold! We have walked more miles than I can count, which is a good thing because we've also eaten more fried foods than I care to remember. Maybe the walking will counter-act the consumption of unhealthy fats! Our internet availability is very limited, and sometimes very expensive. We have found free internet at the local library, but they only allow 30 minutes. I've used up 20 minutes so will continue this at another time. We leave by early train tomorrow to travel across England to Wales - I think there are 4 connections - but by doing so we avoid London. We'll arrive about 3 p.m., just in time for our classes to begin at St. Deinioil's Library at 4 p.m.! (I'll be the one sleeping in the back row!!) Dan is making sure we see the INSIDE of every church we come across.... However, I do find them amazing because most have been standing since the 1500's, and some even earlier. And all have people buried in the floors and or walls, which makes for an even more interesting stroll up and down the aisles!! More to come. Debbie and Dan
